Two reasons that elite interviewing will not be sound qualitative research techniques would be interviewing someone who has already ” convinced themselves , in order to rationalize their own actions ” ( Brians , 2011 , p.367 ) and someone who has ” intentionally lie in order to protect themselves or others ” ( Brians , 2011 , p.367 ) . This may seem like these two roll together but they each share their own trials . Especially if used for Homeland Security . When a person has convinced themselves of their actions verses the right actions they start a downhill slide . I see so much of this going on just because others do not want to believe they are wrong . It is their way or the highway type of deal . So if the President says in order for us to win the war , we must lose the lives of men and women in our military . People will believe that it ‘s not a matter of fighting and stopping the war , it ‘s a matter of how many people will lose their lives . How many of these men and women do you think would go out in harm ‘s way just to be killed ? If this is the only way then others will soon start to follow once they are convinced . Where is this going to leave us ? When a person intentionally lies this can cause reactions around them , especially in Homeland Security . Think of it like this , if there are two terrorists trying to attack America they know their best chances are to have one of them convince others of their lie that they are the threat . Meanwhile the other terrorist is passed by because Homeland Security is certain they have the terrorist . They have the person with the bomb who has convinced them of his plan . The other terrorist who he is protecting is now in the clear to cause a much bigger attack . Or a person who lies about knowing information on an attack that will be happening . This person is protecting others so they are not caught . However , by lying for them they have allowed for them to succeed in a terrorist attack . Interviewing people who have been known to do the above would get Homeland Security nowhere . This would not be sound qualitative research . They must find ways to conduct these interviews that do not rely on what a person has to say . But actual data and hard facts that can be backed up and supported .
