Review the blog: Cell-Phones Only—Whom Should Polls Call and answer the following questions: How might an organization like Pew Research obtain an accurate estimate of the number of cell-phone only households in the first place? What kind of sample would you need to get this estimate? How would you contact this sample?

Hello Professor Elliott & Class , According to Morling ( 2017 ) , the best polls are completed through a random selection of people . By randomly selecting people researchers have a better chance of obtaining a more accurate understanding on what is considered dominant or more favored , like in the case of cellphone only households versus landline households . The reason for this is because random selection allots for a mixture of people from different age groups , ethnicities , etc . However , it still is not full proof . If Pew Research wanted to obtain the most accurate estimate on the number of cellphone only households , random selection may be a good way to start . It might also be a good idea to separate their research based on age groups as the older generation population may be more likely to be a landline only household or a household that only uses their cellphones for emergency purposes . Once the estimates per age group have been complete it could then be compared or measured to a national census . This would allow them to understand what is more predominant as the researchers would be able to determine whether there is more of a population within those particular age groups . Overall , the samples should be contacted on both landlines and cellphones because if you only call individuals on cellphones then you are not getting the best understanding because those who have both cellphone and landlines may not be a cellphone driven home . Instead , these individuals , as mentioned previously , may only have a cellphone for emergency purposes , and would not be considered a cellphone only household .
