Professor and Class – According to Neutens & Rubinsin ( 2014 ) there are seven different types of research methodologies used in health sciences . The first is the experimental method in this approach the investigator is able to control and manipulate one or several different variables . The second method discussed was the survey approach which is considered to provide more descriptive results revealing something about a particular occurrence . The third was the evaluation method , where assessments are used to research a process or program in a specific instance . The Qualitative method was the fourth approach mentioned , this research involves gathering and analyzing information that is descriptive not numerical or quantitative . The fifth method is a subset of the experimental design called the clinical trials approach . The sixth method is also known as , ” effectiveness and implementation research ” or comparative and effectiveness research ( CER ) this approach is rooted in evidence – based medicine and in clinical practice . The seventh and last method is called analytic epidemiology , in this approach seeks to the find the causation or etiology . This is different from descriptive epidemiology which is focused on trends , disease patterns and differentials . I currently do not have a job in health care at the present time , but my work as a teacher would still allow me to apply one of these research methods in the classroom . For instance , I could create a survey that asks students questions to find out how they learn in the classroom and the type of learning environment that may help to keep students engaged . This research could allow me to implement different teaching styles and create an classroom that promotes student engagement and academic learning .
