According to our text ” there is no consistent definition for cyber bullying , though the National Crime Prevention Council defines cyber bulling as when the Internet , cell phones or other devices are used to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person ” ( Taylor , 2011 , p. 150 ) . Cyberbullying can also use on social media like Facebook , Instagram , and Twitter . Cyberbullying is when a person intents to embarrass or cause emotionally stress to another person , whereas cyberstalking goes further than those with the intent to harm a person . ” Stalking is most often defined as the willful or intentional commission of a series of acts that would cause a reasonable person to fear death or serious bodily injury and that , in fact , place the victim in fear of death or serious bodily injury ” ( Taylor , 2011 , p. 151 ) . Yes , there have been a lot of national attention in regards to cyberbullying and cyberstalking however , even with this now in the news it has been going on since the internet took over our lives . When I was being raised my parents , teachers and friends would teach and raise you to be strong and stand up for yourself . Even if this meant confronting the person who was bullying you . Today , we are coddling the youth raising them to be weak and run from there problems . Taking cyberbullying and cyberstalking to the news is not going to stop it . Just as we use to say on the school playground ‘ sticks and stones my break my bones but words will never hurt me ‘ we need to teach our children this and to stand up to their problems not run to the media . Yes , I understand that there have been many cases where cyberbullying and cyberstalking has led to suicides and I do not think this is okay . What I am intending is that if these children and teens were to be confronted by the person they were bullying or their parents this may have been avoided . There is no telling . I was bullied for many years for the way I talked but then one day I had enough and I confronted my bully . We fought it out and after that they stopped . Bullies look and pry on the weak . If we can stop these children from being emotionally weak they will soon start standing up for themselves . In order to stop cyberbullying these children need to realize their happiness does not rely on the positive or negative energy around them . My daughter was also bullied by a boy who was two grades ahead of her . As a parent and on the other side I was mad . I did not let this go without talking to the school , the little boy and his parents . I told my daughter right in front of them all that if this boy hits or pushes her again that she has my permission to fight this boy . Of course I caught hell for saying that but I stood behind my words . I was not going to let someone bully another person . No more than a week later this little boy starts sending her emails calling her every name in the book . I taught my daughter to stand up for herself and that she did . She got kicked off the bus for fighting the boy but that was the last time she was bullied . The same goes for cyberbullying , you need to confront the person and let them know you will not stand for this and it will stop . I do not see cyberbullying as a crime . As for cyberstalking , this can lead to someone physically harming another person and this does need to stop . I believe if there is a case of cyberstalking if the two can not settle the problem then the stalker needs to have action taken against them . A school yard fight is one thing , but to follow someone home and force them inside where they are assaulted or killed is not something that should be taken lightly . Depending on what has happened from this cyberstalking it can be considered a crime . Just to stalk a person on the internet though is no crime .
