Qualitative research is about words and pictures that are collected , where as quantitative research is about the numbers . In qualitative research there is the goal of developing an understanding with the subjects as there is direct contact ; and quantitative is maybe a small amount of contact with subjects , it is looking for the scores in order to test theory and show relationships between variables . When dealing with the subjects qualitative uses observation and quantitative has to take data from either surveys or data sets ( Neutens & Rubinson , 2010 ) . At the hospital , quantitative research methodology of surveys mailed out to patients is used to determine ways to improve system processes and behaviors . Most returned surveys have complaints , a good experience does not prompt a person to return the survey . Or it could have been a good visit and then they get their bill and suddenly it turns to a bad visit . Qualitative research could be done on a particular unit with all the necessary permissions .
