What is your reaction to change in your personal history?
I felt awkward, and self-conscious- change meant that I do something different. And as such, I felt some kind of discomfort and awkward at the beginning.
Resisting the Oncoming Change- I sometimes resisted changes, out of fear and unfamiliarity. This can also occur when I don’t know what the change completely entails. However, such resistance was overcome by initial explanations from the organization.
Stressed and Angry About the Inconvenience-Learning new work processes and systems or navigating a new area made me feel frustrated and tensed. The addition of extra tasks or new elements I had to learn felt like an inconvenience to me.
Excited About the Challenge- there are times when I became enthusiastic about change. This occurred when, for instance, had lesser working hours and had weekends off. This meant that I had more time to spend with family and friends, and I was excited about it.
2. What personal tools do you implement to help yourself navigate change?
Counseling- At different points along the way, I had the support of counselors and my seniors at workplace. When I needed their specific skillset they were there and it made all the difference for me.
Real Community- Throughout my change journey, my community of friends proved to be lifelines for me. To move through change, I sometimes need friends who can hold space for me and my emotions as they show up. There is always that buddy presence that is all what I needed in some instances.
