I will select social class to answer this question. Research has shown that individuals who live in poverty or in under-served neighborhoods are at a higher risk of criminal behavior or tendencies. It has been proven that many crimes are motivated by financial gain, in other words – robbery, armed robbery, theft, retail theft, etc. Also many of these crimes are committed to fund drug addiction and it becomes a vicious cycle. Again, a lower social class is more vulnerable to these temptations or in some cases, crimes are committed out of necessity to survive and support family.
Society needs to address this link in order to prevent future crimes. We need to invest in impoverished communities and businesses to create jobs and other opportunities so people won’t have to commit crimes to support their family, themselves, or other needs.
We also need to invest in more drug education and treatment programs to help people in lower class neighborhoods. Social class has been identified as a risk factor for criminal behavior and corrective action must be taken to incentivize and reinforce positive behaviors.
